Legal Services for Condominiums, Co-ops, and Homeowner Associations

Since 1985, our law firm has concentrated its law practice in the representation of condominiums, co-operatives and homeowner associations in Maryland and the District of Columbia.  In Maryland, our lawyers have worked with communities in Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Howard County, Frederick County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County and other counties from Western Maryland to the Eastern Shore.

Advisors and Advocates

Thomas Schild Law Group attorneys advise condominiums, homeowner associations, and housing cooperatives on all aspects of association operations including:

As advocates, our lawyers represent community associations in court litigation on matters such as covenant enforcement, assessment collection, fair housing, and other general litigation.  And, we represent associations before the Montgomery County Commission on Common Ownership Communities in mediation and arbitration of disputes regarding architectural control, use restrictions, election procedures and other association matters.

Practical Solutions

Thomas Schild Law Group takes a "preventative law" approach to representing community associations. We believe that association interests are better served by advance planning and consultation with legal counsel than by waiting for a problem to end up in litigation.

When it comes to collection of assessments, we believe that associations should pursue a vigorous enforcement policy. Our paralegals and attorneys work closely with management and association representatives to ensure an efficient and coordinated effort to collect delinquent assessments.

With our legal expertise, we help condo, co-op and HOA boards find practical solutions in governing their community.

Leading the Way

Thomas Schild Law Group is a member of the Community Associations Institute (CAI)---a national non-profit organization dedicated to educating board members and community managers and engaged in legislative advocacy on behalf of community associations.

Thomas Schild was a longtime member and past-chair of CAI's Maryland Legislative Action Committee.  As a member of CAI's National Faculty and the College of Community Association Lawyers, he is a nationally-recognized leader in the field of community association law.

Scott Silverman is a former President of CAI's Chesapeake Region Chapter and  is Co-Chair of the CAI Washington Metro Chapter Legislative Committee.  He regularly teaches at CAI programs in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

To keep board members and community managers up to date on community association legal news and trends, Thomas Schild Law Group publishes the Community Association LawLetter and hosts the online Maryland Condominium & HOA Law Blog.
